Wow, I couldn't believe it has been so long I last posted. Things have been a little crazy around. There is so much I can't share right now, but let's just say that the news we just got will relieve some of the stress we have been facing around here.
Anyway, we have had some exciting things happen. Connor won an Ipod Nano at school yesterday. He was soooooo excited. They have been selling things as a fundraiser and all the kids who sold at least 15 items got to enter in a drawing for an Ipod pillow. One of the pillows had a certificate in it for an Ipod. The principal drew the names, the secretary put the certificate in the pillows and the other secretary had the kids pick the pillows. They all looked at once for the certificate. Connor was so excited when he opended his pillow that he didn't realize the certificate was in his hand. I think he was looking for the actual Ipod. Anyway, they ordered the Ipod yesterday and it will come engraved with his name on it. How cool is that?
Brittni, Ari and even Hunter were noticably jealious about the Ipod, but all were excited. Brittni even reminded me that Connor is about the same age that she was when she won a bike at school.
Courtney had a A1C check today and his blood sugar averages were down a little. They were still high compared to "normal" people, but I like to remind everyone that Courtney is definetly not normal. We are going to work on being more agressive with the insulin he takes when he eats and see how he does. There is always talk about putting him on the latest, greatest, medication, but as always the case with Courtney--if there is to be a side effect he will have it. So, for now, we will stick to what we know works. An old, very effective, insulin.
Thanks for the concern about my absence. Hopefully things will slow down a little around here and I will be able to post more often. I went to a stamp club on Friday with my Mom and I would love to post the pictures of what we made sometime.

I spent the day with my Mom. We were out of school and she was off work. She has recently gotten into the stampin and scrappin stuff with me. So, today we made some post it note holders, book marks, and a couple of cards. It was a lot of fun. Here a couple of the cards I made as well as the clips I am making for my kids. I also worked on some valentine treat bag tags, but didn't get them finished.
I used the stampin up punch to make the small flowers in the left corner. The top flower is from some my mom brought. I used a gemstone brad for the center of the big flower. In the picture it looks green, but it is really light blue. I love the paisley paper.
This is a small 4 x 4 card. I made one for something my mom needed and made a spare just to have.
This book mark matches the cards I made, you can't see it real well, but I used glitter for the snowman. CUTE!
This card is big, 5 1/4 x 5 1/4. I think this is my new favorite color scheme.

Thank you cards

The first card is for a man at our church who gave our family a 1 year membership to the local YMCA.
The second card is for a family in our church who gave me free gas from a local gas station for working with the children's ministries.
The third card is a card for my Sunday school class for the awesome day they gave me last Sunday. They knew I needed them, and they were there. Ten fold!

Weekend Activites
This is going to be a busy weekend for us. Today, Connor is racing his RA Racer in a tournament. For those of you who don't know what an RA Racer is, it is a car they sand down, add weight too, add wheels too and paint. It must fall within certain guidelines and you race it against other people from the Southern Baptist Convention in our area. You get two loses before you are out. Brittni is competing with the WHS academic team in the regional competition today. We are not going because there is no cheering, clapping or distracting allowed. Can you see Hunter being quiet for 4 hours?! I will post pics from Connor's car races tonight.
Tomorrow Ari, Courtney and Connor are shooting in their first archery shoot of the year. This is Connor's first time to compete and he is STOKED! He has been practicing all week. If Courtney takes pics, I will post some tomorrow. Have a great weekend. Don't forget to stop and relax some when you have the chance.

3900 Saturday Mornings

3900 Saturday Mornings
The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it's the quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a Saturday morning are most enjoyable.
A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the garage with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it:
I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning swap net. Along the way, I came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a golden voice. You know the kind; he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting business. He was s telling whom-ever he was talking with something about "a thousand marbles." I was intrigued and stopped to listen to what he had to say
"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. It's too bad you missed your daughter's "dance recital" he continued. "Let me tell you something that has helped me keep my own priorities." And that's when he began to explain his theory of a "thousand marbles."
"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years.
"Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900, which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime. Now, stick with me, Tom, I'm getting to the important part. It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail", he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays." "I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy. So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right here in the shack next to my gear."
"Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the really important things in life.
There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight."
"Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take my lovely wife out for breakfast This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing we can all use is a little more time."
"It was nice to meet you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your family, and I hope to meet you again here on the band. This is a 75 Year old Man, K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, good morning!"
You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off. I guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on the antenna that morning, and then I was going to meet up with a few hams to work on the next club newsletter.
Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. "C'mon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast" "What brought this on?" she asked with a smile. "Oh, nothing special, it's just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. And hey, can we stop at a toy store while we're out? I need to buy some marbles.
